Liberty Lessons – Tariffs – Xenia, OH 05/27/2025 – Register TODAY!

BBFL is pleased announce the next in our U.S. Constitutional education: Liberty Lessons, with a focus on Tariffs. This Liberty Lesson is offered no cost to you.

After participating in our U.S. Constitution Boot Camps, you may seek further insights from our Founding Fathers. BBFL has designed lessons that delve deeper into the subjects of the U.S. Constitution and the ways in which We The People have diverged from our Founding Fathers’ vision. Our topics timely and pertinent to the daily transgressions we witness.

In a fascinating twist of early American fiscal policy, the very first law passed by the First Congress in 1789 revolved around tariffs—yes, those pesky taxes on imports that we often grumble about today!

The Founders were quite the forward-thinkers, declaring that tariffs were essential not just for keeping the lights on in the new federal government, but also for paying off debts and giving a leg up to American manufacturers. Who knew that a simple tax could be the backbone of a budding nation?

Fast forward to 1913, and we see how the introduction of income tax shook things up, but it was tariffs that kept the government afloat during those formative years. So, if you’ve ever wondered how our Founders envisioned a government that was both funded and limited, this is your chance to dive in!

Understanding these historical principles not only helps illuminate our current discussions around government funding but also empowers you to engage thoughtfully in civic matters today. Plus, let’s be honest—who doesn’t want to impress friends at parties with their knowledge of 18th-century tax policy? So, let’s roll up our sleeves and explore this intriguing chapter in our nation’s history together!

Join us with our host the Greene County Tea Party in Xenia, OH to explore the complexities of Tariffs.
